Crestone Needle to Peak Loop

by Steele Spence  July 18-20, 2011

Ever since I first heard about Crestone Needle, I wanted to climb it.  15 years later it became a reality.  The Crestones are 2 of the gems of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in Southern Colorado.  Steep conglomerate rock defines these two peaks (Crestone Needle and Crestone Peak).  Christian Mosiman (Mosey) and I did our research and discovered the “Crestone Traverse,”  Here’s our route: East Gully to Crestone Needle Summit, Needle to Peak Traverse, Red Gully to Crestone Peak Summit, Northwest Couloir descent to Bears Playground, Ridge to Humbolt Pass to return to South Colony Lakes.  Enjoy the photo gallery!
